2015 Malbec, Blau Vineyard Knights Valley
2015 Malbec, Knights Valley
100% Malbec
Vineyard: Nestled at the base of Mt St Helena, Blau Vineyard is the ideal spot to produce the Malbec I desire. Volcanic eruptions from Mt St Helena long ago, and the ancient dried up Russian River bed make for truly unique volcanic, river and, alluvial soil all mixed together. Its warm days and cool nights make it ideal for Malbec. The Malbec block is a hillside vineyard with fantastic drainage. While sampling the vineyard if you look up you see picturesque views of Mt St Helena and if you dig through the soil you will see flakes and large pieces of Obsidian everywhere. This truly has been an ideal spot to be for centuries!
Winemaking: Cold soaked and left on the skins for an extended period, fermented using two yeast strains, put through extended maceration, pressed then barrel aged for 18 months in French Oak, 40% new oak.
Tasting Notes: A plum colored wine with aromas of violet, and cedar forest with a black cherry velvety mouth feel that ends with a smooth yet spicy soft lingering finish.
75 cases produced, 14%ABV, $52/bottle
